ITEM #21
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 6, 2005
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER
SUBJECT: APPROVE ATTACHED SALARY RESOLUTION AND JOB
DESCRIPTION FOR A PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR POSITION
WITHIN THE STREETS DIVISION, PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT;
APPROVE RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION FOR TWO
PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR POSITIONS.
DATE: July 25, 2005
BACKGROUND:
In the Fiscal Year 2005/2006 Budget as presented and adopted by Council on June 21, 2005, the
Streets Division of the Public Works Department did not fund its Public Services Supervisor
position in order to budget two Production Supervisor positions.
DISC USSI ON/ANALYSIS:
The duties of a Production Supervisor include but are not limited to: supervising maintenance,
repair and construction programs; coordinate field maintenance services with other departments
and outside agencies; estimate project cost including time, equipment, materials and supplies.
This position will restructure the leadership within the Streets and Parks Division allowing the
Division's supervisors to have a span of control that is more task oriented. The annual salary of a
Production Supervisor is $50,304 to $61,144; a salary survey of similar positions was conducted
in order to establish this range.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Approval of the Production Supervisor job description and salary scale will not have an impact on
the General Fund as it was anticipated in the approved budget.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Not applicable.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST:
Not applicable.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that Council:
• Approve attached Production Supervisor job description for the Streets Division, Public
Works Department;
• Approve attached salary resolution for Production Supervisor position; and
• Approve recruitment and ratification of two Production Supervisors.
7/10/03 City Clerk's Office Cb
