ITEM #12 CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 20, 2005 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: KENNETH RULON, CHIEF OF POLICE SUBJECT: APPROVE ACCEPTANCE OF A FEDERAL COPS TECH GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $98,664.00 AND ADOPT BUDGET AMENDMENT. DATE: SEPTEMBER 12, 2005 BACKGROUND: On August 2, 2005, the City Council approved the Police Department's proposed purchase of a Mobile Command Center to be funded with proceeds from asset seizure accounts, VITEP and State and Federal Grants. No General Funds are being used for this project. This project included an anticipated COPS TECH GRANT which has now been awarded. The accompanying Resolution is required to accept this Grant in the amount of $98,664.00. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: On August 29, 2005, the Colton Police Department received official notification of Grant Funding for the Federal COPS TECH GRANT applied for in May, 2005. The City Council approved the use of this anticipated $98,000.00 Grant towards the purchase of a Mobile Command Center. However, the Official Grant Award is for $98,664.00 and therefore, requires a budget amendment for the additional $664.00. The Grant will be used for Tech equipment and Tech equipment support in the Mobile Command Center. Some examples of Tech and Tech support equipment included in the Grant are: • Public Safety Radios • Civil / Amateur Radios • Global Position Satellite transmitter/receiver • Dispatch equipment • Mobile Data Computers • Smart (type) Boards (electronic display boards) • Hostage Negotiation equipment • Monitors • Video and audio recording • Copier/Fax • Antenna and receivers • Electrical wiring and support equipment The specific Tech Equipment is detailed in the Grant application.
