ITEM #15 CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 20, 2005 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION REQUEST TO SOLICIT FORMAL BIDS FOR TREE TRIMMING MAINTENANCE SERVICES. DATE: September 12, 2005 BACKGROUND There exist four tree trimming areas in the City of Colton. As a result of the new programs that the Streets Division has undertaken, such as street sweeping, slurry sealing, and an increase in concrete service and project requests, some backlog in the established tree trimming schedule has resulted. ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION : Recently, the City was authorized to award a landscape maintenance contract, realizing a cost savings, to Sunny Days Landscape. The general fund appropriated $156,741 to the LLMD Division to cover the forecasted shortfall of running the LLMD Divisions at the beginning of the 2005-2006 fiscal year. As these funds will no longer be needed to cover a shortfall the Public Works Department requests authorization to solicit bids for a Tree Trimming Program to be funded by the LLMD general fund allocation. This will allow the Streets Division's Tree Trimming Program the opportunity to catch up on its service requests and City park trimming. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: Not applicable. CONFLICT OF INTEREST: None. FINANCIAL/FISCAL IMPACT: There will be no impact to the general fund. RECOMMENDATION: Staff respectfully recommends that Council authorize the request to solicit public bids for Tree Trimming Maintenance Services.
