Council Members Cisneros and Rehrer voting NO. <br />CITY PROPERTY <br />232 East "D" St. <br />City Manager Trevino reported from a memorandum from the General Services Supervisor <br />with regard to the city owned house at 232 East "D" Street. Mr. Trevino stated <br />the cost of moving the house is between $8,000 and $11,0000 and that there does <br />not appear to be interest for the purchase of this house. Mr. Trevino reported <br />a suggested alternative would be to offer to put the house up for sale with a <br />stipulation that the successful buyer remove the house and if this should fail <br />to come to fruition, then the only recourse would to demolish the structure. <br />Mr. Trevino gave the recommendation that Council authorize the sale of the house <br />at 232 East "D" Street, and if we have no buyers within a reasonable time, then <br />demolish the structure. <br />Moved by Councilwoman Garcia, seconded by Mayor Gonzales to accept the Staff <br />recommendation. Unanimous vote. <br />N <br />(Y) WORK PROGRAM <br />Los Padrinos <br />Q City Manager Trevino reported Mr. John Perez, Project Director, Los Padrinos of <br />Q Southern California, Inc. has indicated that he has available nine youths ages <br />16 - 21 to perform work for the City of Colton at to no expense to us that can <br />be utilized in whatever capacity we may have need of. <br />Mr. Trevino advised the Council that all required forms and workman's compensa- <br />tion and liability insurances will be taken care of by Los Padrinos. Mr. Trevino <br />continued by saying, if the Council grants approval of this program, the youths <br />would be placed in the Parks Department for a maximum of six hours per day or <br />thirty hours per week until September 30, 1981. <br />Mr. Trevino recommended approval of the Los Padrinos Work Program until September 30, <br />1981. <br />Mr. John Perez of Los Padrinos addressed the Council and stated this program is <br />offered through the Department of Labor and coordinated through the County of <br />San Bernardino. Mr. Perez said the current program is addressed to aide dis- <br />advantaged youths in the community through employment where they actually provide <br />service to the community. Mr. Perez said one of the on-going activities being <br />the provision and installation of dead bolt locks to senior citizens free of charge. <br />Moved by Councilman Hayes, seconded by Councilwoman Garcia, to approve the Work <br />Program of Los Padrinos through September 30, 1981. Unanimous vote. <br />BUDGET APPROPRIATION <br />Chamber of Commerce <br />City Manager Trevino on the request from the Chamber of Commerce for economical <br />assistance from the City in the amount of $25,000 in order that the Chamber can <br />enter into a contractual agreement with the City to promote certain events. <br />Mr. Trevino felt that the Chamber of Commerce is in a sense, an extension of the <br />City and a good sound work relationship does exist, however, the economical <br />constraints of our budget indicates that we could not in good conscience allocate <br />the $25,000. Mr. Trevino recommended that the City enter into a contractual <br />agreement with the Chamber of Commerce, guided by the City Attorney, for a sum <br />of $15,000 to be paid in installments agreeable to both the Chamber and City. <br />Discussion followed on the various events and as to the time frame within which <br />the events would actually take place. <br />Moved by Councilman Hayes, seconded by Councilwoman Garcia, to accept the Staff <br />recommendation with regard to contractual installment payment to the Chamber of <br />Commerce in the total sum of $15,000. Motion carried.
