n Orientation of New Council Members0 <br />Expectations <br />Questions Answered <br />Introductions <br />Council/City Manager/City/Proactive Staff=Goals/Assignments for City Manager <br />EXPECTATIONS FROM COUNCIUCITY MANAGER: <br />Council Exercises: <br />Council and City Manager discussed their philosophies for being in public service and <br />their decision making process. They also discussed how the City Council has changed <br />and what is different (old vs. new). <br />Assistant to the City Manager Kathy Kively's thought on the City Council are: <br />Council communicates in a better way, but e-mail would help to make it better. <br />D Council is more trusting (vs. Old). <br />D These Councilmembers are visionaries. <br />D Council has a good temperament. <br />Assistant City Manager Daryl Parrish's thought about Council are: <br />n Council works together. <br />D Council works through their differences. <br />D Council could do better with good tools for communication. <br />D Today's Council is the best the City has had. <br />City Manager Henry Garcia's thoughts about this Council are: <br />D City Council is smart enough to move forward; at times however, Council gives <br />mixed messages. He would like to clarify what they really want. <br />D Council knows appropriateness, however, is sometimes demanding. The <br />management has been dysfunctioning and he believes that through todays <br />communication, there can be clarity and the miscommunication can be cleared <br />up. <br />D Council and City Manager need to manage the City together. <br />Council and staff discussed some of the communication problems they have with each <br />other and among their own groups. Some of the issues were: <br />D Not getting feedback. <br />n Council expects staff to follow through on their requests. <br />D City Manager Garcia indicated that there are over 400 requests currently <br />open on the books and the following areas need changed or improved: <br />• Staffing is short, need more. <br />• Reorganizing is needed in some departments. <br />
