If the vehicle servicing facility does not <br />2 include facilities for the washing of more than one vehicle at a time, the <br />3 1 interceptor shall have an operation fluid capacity of not less than 6 cubic <br />1 <br />4i feet and an accessible effective water surface of not less than 4 square <br />5 feet. "Accessible effective water surface" is here understood to mean.a <br />6I� surface which is easily accessible for cleaning and which at the same time <br />I , <br />7 will retain oil floating on the surface of water passing through the trap <br />8i� under conditions of use. If the vehicle servicing facility has facilities <br />9 for washing or otherwise cleaning more than one vehicle at a time, the <br />101 interceptor shall have an operating fluid capacity of not less than 12 <br />11 cubic feet and an accessible effective water surface of not less than <br />121 6 square feet, and shall be as much larger than this as is necessary so <br />1 3) that a seven-day accumulation of sand and oil combined will not fill more <br />14 ! than 25/0 of the fluid capacity. The interceptor shall be designed so as <br />I <br />15 I to retain any oil and grease which will float and any sand which will settle. <br />16 It shall be water tight and structurally sound and durable, and shall be <br />17 easily accessible for'"cleaning and also for inspection by the Public Works <br />i <br />18 1 Director or Plumbing Official. <br />19 Section 4b - Any interceptor legally and properly installed at <br />20 ( a vehicle servicing facility before the effective date of this ordinance <br />21 shall be acceptable as an alternative to the interceptor specified in <br />I� <br />22 Section 4a, provided such interceptor is effective in removing sand and <br />23 1 oil and is so designed and installed that it can be inspected and properly <br />24 I) maintained. If the Public Works Director finds either by engineering <br />I <br />251 knowledge or by observation, that an interceptor is incapable of retaining <br />261 adequately the sand and oil in the waste water flow from a vehicle <br />27 II servicing facility, he shall condemn such interceptor and declare that it <br />28! does not meet the requirements of this ordinance. <br />!1 <br />29 Section 4c - The Public Works Director of Plumbing Official <br />it <br />30 i shall maintain a file available for public use, of suitable designs of <br />I <br />3111 sand -and -oil interceptors.
