1 <br />2 <br />3 <br />4 <br />5 <br />6 <br />7 <br />8 <br />9 <br />10 <br />11 <br />12 <br />13 <br />14 <br />15 <br />16 <br />17 <br />18 <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 <br />22 <br />23 <br />24 <br />25 <br />26 <br />27 <br />28 <br />ORDINANCE NO. 0-18-06 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />COLTON AMENDING CHAPTER 2.02 OF THE COLTON <br />MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING COUNCIL DISTRICT <br />BOUNDARIES FOR COUNCIL DISTRICTS 5 AND 6 <br />WHEREAS, Elections Code Section 21603 requires that the City Council ensure <br />that each Council District remains as "nearly equal in population" as possible upon an <br />annexation of territory in between federal censuses; and <br />WHEREAS, the last federal census took place in 2000 and the next federal <br />census will take place in 2010; and <br />WHEREAS, Annexation Nos. S-50 and S-51, which became effective on <br />September 20, 2004, resulted in an increase in population of 214 and 46, respectively; and <br />WHEREAS, the 214 individuals in Annexation No. S-50 were added to Council <br />District 6 and the 46 individuals in Annexation No. S-51 were added to Council District 5; and <br />WHEREAS, in 2001, when the City redistricted after the 2000 Federal Census, <br />they placed approximately 8,000 people in each district; and, as such, the addition of 46 people <br />in District 5, and 214 people in District 6, will not result in such a significant change as to create <br />unequal populations in Council Districts 5 and 6, particularly when one takes into account the <br />population changes that have most likely occurred in other Council Districts since the 2001 <br />redistricting. <br />THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION 1. Subdivision "E" of Section 2.02.080 of Chapter 2.02 of the Colton <br />Municipal Code is hereby deleted in its entirety and restated to read as follows: <br />"2.02.080 District numbers and boundaries. <br />E. District 5. All that land located in the city lying within the following <br />described boundaries: <br />ORANGE\NSTUB BS\720001.6 <br />
