City of Colton <br />FIRE DIVISION CHIEF <br />DEFIN'ITIOtJ <br />Under administrative direction, supervises and coordinates the operations of a <br />major division of the Fire Department involving fire prevention, suppression,, <br />training activities or emergency services participates as a member of the fire <br />management team in the evaluation of departmental problems, policies, and <br />issues; may act_ on behalf of the Fire Chief during absences; and does related <br />work as required. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br />Plans, organizes, develops, coordinates and directs operational procedures <br />relating to fire prevention, suppression, training, inspection, or investigation <br />activities within a major division; participates in the interviewing, selection, <br />training, evaluation, and counseling of employees; establishes and coordinates <br />division work schedules with other fire divisions, departments, and outside <br />agencies; reviews departmental policies and safety practices with personnel; <br />assists in the formulation and administration of departmental rules, regulations, <br />and procedures; assigns personnel, materi.a-ls, and equipment in order to achieve <br />the greatest efficiency, effectiveness, and expediency in response time; con- <br />tinually reviews division activities to identify problems and develops; <br />recommendations for improving the quality of fire services; directs the pre- <br />paration and maintenance of statistical and activity reports relating to <br />emergency incidents and fire prevention activities; coordinates mutual and <br />automatic aid programs with other jurisdictions; orders supplies, materials, <br />and equipment for the division, and makes budgetary recommendations concerning <br />staffing levels; may direct fire fighting operations for structural fires and <br />major emergencies and act on behalf of the Fire Chief when designated. <br />When assigned as Coordinator of Colton Office of Emergency Services:' The <br />Coordinator, under the supervision of the Emergency Services' Director and <br />Assistant Emergency Services Director, and with the assistance of Emergency <br />Service Chiefs, and with such other powers and duties as assigned, shall plan,_ <br />organize, coordinate, and direct development and update the City of Colton's <br />Emergency Plan, and related plans, through development training and coordination <br />of assigned personnel, and -when so assigned, shall devote: that amount of time <br />and effort as deemed necessary to maintain_civil preparedness at a level pur- <br />suant to requirements of State and Federal agencies involved, and in -a manner <br />that is consistent with planning endeavors of cooperating agencies, juris- <br />dictions and private sector, to the best benefit of the City of Colton. This <br />assignment shall be considered a primary responsibility. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENT <br />Possession of, or ability to.obtain, a Class <br />a good driving record prior to employment. <br />3 California Driver's License and <br />DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS <br />Knowledges: <br />Thorough knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices involved in <br />firefighting; <br />Thorough knowledge of fire prevention and investigation techniques; <br />The operation and maintenance of a variety of fire apparatus and equipment; <br />Principles and practices of supervision and training; <br />Policies, rules, regulations and procedures involved in Fire Department <br />administration and organization. <br />EXHIBIT "A" <br />
