R-86-04 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON APPROVING <br />MEASURE I: HALF -CENT PORTION OF THE COUNTY SALES TAX FUNDS A WIDE <br />VARIETY OF CRITICAL TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS <br />THROUGHOUT SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY. <br />Whereas, since 1990, Measure I has supplied San Bernardino County with the funding <br />to provide its residents with safer roads, more reliable public transit and traffic congestion <br />relief; and <br />Whereas, San Bernardino County is one of the most rapidly growing counties in <br />California and is anticipated to grow to a population of more than 2.6 million people by the <br />year 2025; and <br />Whereas, a substantial level of transportation funding throughout San Bernardino <br />County and its cities is provided by Measure I; and <br />Whereas, extending Measure I will raise nearly $6 billion for much needed <br />transportation projects, programs and improvements in San Bernardino County between 2010 <br />1611 and 2040; and <br />17 <br />18 <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 <br />22 <br />23 <br />24 <br />25 <br />26 <br />27 <br />28 <br />Whereas, Measure I will provide major improvement to all freeways and highways <br />within the county; and <br />Whereas, Measure I will expand public transit programs and options for commuters, <br />seniors, and riders with disabilities; and <br />Whereas, Measure I will provide the crucial funding needed for communities to <br />maintain and improve local streets and roads; and <br />Whereas, if Measure I is not extended, the transportation network within San <br />Bernardino County would be seriously crippled, adversely affecting commuters and residents <br />throughout the County; and <br />Whereas, the passage of Measure I would ensure that the City of Colton would be <br />able to provide a safer environment to their residents and maintain the high quality of life we <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
