R-37-05 <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON, AUTHORIZING THE <br />SUBMISSION OF THREE APPLICATIONS FOR HAZARDOUS SAFETY ELIMINATION <br />GRANTS, FOR FISCAL YEAR 2005/2006 FUNDS. <br />WHEREAS, the Hazard Elimination Safety (HES) Program provides funds <br />for safety improvements on any public road, public surface, publicly owned bicycle <br />or pedestrian pathway, and any traffic calming measures; <br />WHEREAS, Section 2333 of the California Streets and Highways Code <br />establishes the Legislature's intent that the total statewide federal safety funds be <br />split equally among state highway projects, local road projects and Safe Route to <br />School projects; <br />WHEREAS, the Transportation Efficiency Act for the 21 st Century (TEA -21) <br />of 1998 requires that ten percent of the apportioned Surface Transportation <br />Program (STP) funds be made available for safety programs as defined Sections <br />130, 152 and of the United State Code; <br />WHEREAS, Caltrans solicits candidate HES projects from local agencies on <br />an annual basis; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton is dedicated to improving <br />the street infrastructure. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON DO <br />HEREBY RESOLVE authorization for submittal of four HES Grant applications for <br />fiscal year 2005/2006 funds. <br />PASSED, APPROVED AND Ar PTED THIS 5th DAY OF APRIL 2005. <br />DEIRDRE H.
