1 RESOLUTION NO. R-33-07 <br />2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />3 COLTON AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. R-102-03 TO <br />ESTABLISH A RENEWABLES PORTFOLIO STANDARD IN <br />4 COMPLIANCE WITH SENATE BILL 107 <br />5 WHEREAS, the City of Colton (the "Citi') desires to encourage the use of renewable <br />6 energy resources; and <br />7 WHEREAS, of the total amount of energy provided to the City's electric utility <br />8 customers, only four percent (4%) is currently received by the City from renewable energy <br />9 resources; and <br />10 WHEREAS, to increase the amount of energyfrom renewable energy resources, the <br />11 State of California requires local publicly owned electric utilities to establish a Renewables Portfolio <br />12 Standards ("RPS") Policy, in compliance with California Public Utilities Code section 387; and <br />13 WHEREAS, on October 7, 2003, the City Council adopted Resolution No. R-102-03 <br />14 which established the RPS Policy for the City in compliance with Section 387 and set a target <br />15 portfolio level of 15 percent energy from renewable energy resources by December 31, 2017; and <br />16 WHEREAS, Senate Bill 107, which became effective on January 1, 2007, amends <br />17 <br />Public Utilities Code section 387 to declare the legislative goal of a target RPS of 20 percent energy <br />18 <br />from renewable energy resources by December 31, 2010; and <br />19 <br />WHEREAS, the City desires to amend its RPS Policy by establishing a new target <br />20 <br />RPS which recognizes and supports the State's goals of encouraging renewable energy resources <br />21 <br />and obtaining the greatest benefit possible for the environment. <br />22 <br />23 BE IT NOW THEREFORE RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: <br />24 SECTION 1. The City Council hereby amends Section 2 of Resolution No. R-102- <br />25 03 to comply with Senate Bill 107 as follows: <br />26 "SECTION 2. The City of Colton Electric Utility will increase procurement of <br />electricity from eligible renewable resources until a target portfolio level of 20 percent is reached by <br />27 December 31, 2010, measured by the amount of energy procured in making retail sales of <br />electricity." <br />28 <br />1 <br />
