KEANE, CITY MANAGER <br />SUBJECT: BID AWARD FOR ONE (1) 8 TON DIGGER DERRICK Date: DECEMBER 13, 1989 <br />TO WEST COAST UTILITY EQUIPMENT IN THE <br />AMOUNT OF -$232,447.38. <br />On November 16, 1989, we advertised for quotations for One (1) 8 <br />Ton Cab & Chassis with Utility Body and Heavy Crane (Digger <br />Derrick) for the Electric Department. Bid opening was;hel.d at <br />2:30 P.M., ]December 11, 1989, in the Electric Department Conference <br />Room. <br />Three bids were received and a Bid Analysis showing prices and <br />delivery is attached for your review. The recommended vendor's <br />prise is underlined. <br />Two of the three bids did not meet specifications for the <br />j following: <br />1 <br />Altec Industries does not meet. the minimum specifications <br />as listed below: <br />1. :Boom capacity is 20,796 lbs instead of 26,950 lbs - <br />will not lift our transformers. <br />2. ;Boom height is 51' instead of 60' <br />3. Sheave height is 51' instead of 60'. <br />4. 'Winch cable is 95' instead of 150'. <br />alifornia Utility Equipment, Inc_. does not meet the minimum <br />pecifications as follows <br />( 1. Sheave head is Te:xoma.Standard not Southern California <br />Edison design and is conductive instead of non-conductive, <br />2. The Pole Plumber does not tilt <br />3. Hydraulic tool power at boom tip instead of air tool <br />power this would require all new tools. <br />West Coast Utility's bid of $232,447.38 meets all of the City's <br />specifications. The budget appropriation for this requirement <br />is $220,000.00.
