CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of JUNE 20, 1989
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: RICH HOLMER, HUMAN SERVICES DIRECTOR,1Y
SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF RESOLUTIONS APPROVING STATE Date: JUNE 13, 1989
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION (SDE) CONTRACT FOR PROVISION OF CHILD
CARE SERVICES AND AUTHORIZING STAFF TO SIGN ALL CONTRACTUAL
50eUMENTS ON THE COUNCIL'S BEHALF
The City of Colton Human Services Department has completed its first
full year of providing school age child care services to the residents
of Colton. The program has exceeded all expectations and is being
touted as a model program by the State for replication in other
communities.
The program consists of two separate and distinct components. The first
is a center -based element. Presently, this element serves students at
Wilson, Lincoln, and Reche Canyon Elementary Schools. Enrollment is at
capacity and a waiting list has been developed. This year's grant
appropriation from the State of California Department of Education for
the center -based element is $104,103. The alternative payment element
serves students at all other schools in the Colton Joint Unified School
District. Through this program, parents select a licensed child care
provider near their child's school or home and the provider is
reimbursed directly through the program. This program element has been
expanded and is near capacity. This year's grant appropriation from the
State of California Department of Education for the Alternative Payment
element is $102,021.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that Council adopt resolutions approving the contracts
between the City and the State of California Department of Education
(SDE) for provision of child care services during fiscal year 1989-90.
Moreover, it is recommended that Council authorize Rich Holmer, Human
Services Director, to sign all contractual documents on Council's
behalf.
RH/bjw
City Manager's
Attachments:
Resolutions
Concurrence
Page 1 of---!— Item No.
