TO:
FROM:
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of June 19, 1990
Honorable Mayor and City Council
John C. Hutton, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT: Approval of Additional Funds for Sanitation Date: June 15, 1990
Division's Dumping Fees in the Amount of $119,000
BACKGROUND: Dumping fees as charged by the County of San Bernardino have increased
in the last 9 months and the amount of additional tonnage and fees have exceeded
the FY89-90 estimates. Therefore, additional funds are needed to pay these dumping
fees. Dumping fees have been averaging $35,000 a month.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: Due to additional tonnage and fees received from the
County of San Bernardino, the fund for dumping charges has exceeded the estimated
amount projected for FY89-90 additional funds are, therefore, necessary to cover
the increased charges.
ALTERNATIVES: At this time the only alternatives to lessening our dumping fees
and tonnage is the expansion of the Recycling Program and solid waste stream
reduction, which will take several years to accomplish, but will reduce tonnages
and related fees in the future.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Failure to pay these dumping fees will cost the City delinquent
Tee charges.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: Continued use of the County landfill will cease.
RECCUAENDATION: Staff recommends that the Council approve the additional appro-
priation in the amount of $119,000 to pay the dumping fees to the County of San
Bernardino.
JCH/ 1 j
CITY MANAGER'S CONCURRENCE:
Attachments
Page 1 of
1
ORIGINAL
CENTRAL RECORDS Item No. &
FILE r4o. __ _aa, ...............9v
