CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of March 20, 1990
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Jerry Young, City Manager/
SUBJECT: ADOPT NEW JOB DESCRIPTION FOR
ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY AND SECRETARY
Date: March 20, 1990
The current job descriptions for the positions of Administrative
Secretary and Secretary were written in 1971. The skills needed
for these positions have changed over time. The major change is
in the dictation requirements. The requirement for Administrative
Secretary is 110 words per minute and Secretary is 100 words per
minute. These are now unreasonable requirements for these positions.
Some departments in the City do not need the Administrative Secretary
or Secretary to take dictation at all. Staff believes the shorthand
requirement should be reduced to 80 words per minute when required
by the department head.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the adoption of the attached job descriptions for
the position of Administrative Secretary and Secretary.
Report prepared by: Sandra Knight, Human Resources Manager
Attachments:
Page 1 of ORIGINAL Item No.
CENTRAL RECORDS
rILE NO.
