CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of May 1, 1990
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: John C. Hutton, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT: Approval of Emergency Resolution for the Repair Date: April 24, 1990
of Shasta Dr. and Scenic Dr. Sewer Main
The above two streets are located east of Mt. Vernon Ave. and southerly of Colton Ave.
with Shasta Dr. turning into Scenic Dr. at Iowa Ave.
During a recent inspection of the sewer main several locations were noted to have
blockages which related to pavement failures on the street section. A T.V. camera
crew was called in immediately to visually inspect the interior of the sewer line
(VHS film available for Council's review). After completion of this visual inspection
it was found that a majority of the line, particularly the top section of the pipe
was found to be completely deteriorated due to age, and many sections had been
completely blocked. Since the Shasta Dr. sewer main serves as a collector to all
the northerly residential units up to Colton Ave. and also serves as an Cami Trans
bus route, the repair of the line is imperative before the street disintegrates further.
Quotes have been received through CMI, the City's sewer plant operators, to perform
the necessary replacements to the sewer main. The Insituform process used on the
Stevens alley sewer line was found to be the least disruptive with the littlest
inconvenience to the customer. Therefore, staff recommends that this process be
used.
Staff recommends that Council approve the attached Resolution declaring the sewer
main repairs to be an emergency and approve the allocation of funds from the sewer
revenue in the amount of $229,565 for the repair. Staff also recommends that
Council approve Insituform as the contractor to perform the emergency repair.
JCH/lj
CITY MANAGER'S CONCURRENCE: XQZlx
61 V I
Attachments: 2
Page 1 of Item No.
