R-34_9., <br />I' - <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON, <br />I ' SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE MOVE TO <br />PRESERVE UNITED STATES ROUTE 66 AS AN HISTORIC HIGHWAY <br />2 <br />1, <br />3' WHEREAS, United States Route 66, a two thousand -mile highway frau <br />4 Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, has played a major role in <br />5; the twentieth-century history of our country; and <br />6i WHEREAS, Route 66 has become a symbol of the American people's <br />i, <br />7',; heritage of travel and their legacy of seeking a better life; and <br />8 WHEREAS, Route 66 served as a funnel for the twentieth-century <br />9:, migration from the Dust Bowl of the Central States; and <br />101 WHEREAS, Route 66 has been memorialized in such books as "Grapes <br />i' <br />11, of Wrath", songs, motion pictures, and television programs, and has become <br />12, an accepted part of American popular culture; and <br />i <br />13 WHEREAS, during the early 1980's structures and features along <br />14 Route 66 began to disappear and the historical value lost to the Nation. <br />i <br />15 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of <br />16..
