CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of October 16, 1990
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: John C. Hutton, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT: Approval of Expenditure of Traffic Fees for Date: October 9, 1990
Street Division for Traffic Striping Remover
RAC'KC;RCX IND!
The Public Works/Street Division removes, replaces and relocates traffic striping
for roadways as needed to accommodate traffic flow throughout the City.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM:
The Street Division can no longer black out (paint) existing striping due to the
required use of water base paints which fade and wear out over the old oil base
paints. The traffic line remover was requested in the capital improvement portion
of the FY90-91 Street Division budget, which is part of the special financing plan
being proposed by the City Manager for all capital equipment.
The Traffic Committee has reviewed the need for this piece of equipment in order
to place new traffic striping for safe lane distinction, particularly through the
upcoming winter months, and has recommended that traffic fees be utilized to
purchase the line remover.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Wait until the special financing plan is approved for
capital equipment purchases.
2. Purchase from General Fund Reserve.
3. Purchase from Traffic Fee Fund.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
If the line remover is purchased from the Traffic Fee Fund, which are funds
collected from development fees, there is no financial impact to the General Fund.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None
RECCNMENDATION:
Staff recommends that Council approve the recommendation from the Traffic Committee
to expend traffic fees in the amount of $3,500 for the acquisition of a traffic
line remover.
JCH/ 1 j ORIGINAL r
CES T R P-1 r,a-E00RDS
CITY MANAGER'S CONCURRENCE: FL -E O.0. ----------------
Attachments: 1 Item No.
