CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT For Council Meeting of SEPTEMBER 18, 1990 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: EDMUND F. SOTELO, CITY MANAGE SUBJECT: ECONamic/REDEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR BACKGROUND Date: SEPTEMBER 14, 1990 Recently, the "Senior Planner" resigned to accept a position elsewhere that offered more in terms of challenges, responsibility and salary. All too often, the City of Colton finds itself training and developing staff only to lose them to agencies that renumerate higher. Staff has also observed that the responsibilities and duties described in the job description for Senior Planner are somewhat different than the actual work performed. It is the intent of staff to create a family of positions in the Redevelopment Agency that are related and provide for upward rmbility and the opportunity to advance. It is proposed that the Senior Planner classification no longer be used for the Redevelopment Agency but instead, the position of Economic/Redevelopment Coordinator be instituted in the Agency. In addition, it is proposed that the salary range be established for this position at range 21.5 with a top step of $4516. It is anticipated that this action will attract the appropriate level of candidates possessing the qualifications, skills and abilities to perform in the position. The revised position will demand a higher level of qualifications to include supervision, elaborate experience and the ability to work independently. RECOMMENDATION It is staffs recommendation that the City Council adopt the job description for Economic/Redevelopment Coordinator and establish the salary range by the adoption of the attached Resolution.
