Hutton, Director of Public Works <br />SUBJECT: Approval of Traffic Committee Recommendation to Date: March 26, 1991 <br />Appropriate $19,300 for the Upgrade of the Traffic <br />Signals at Mt. Vernon Ave. and La Cadena Dr. <br />r1Af'Vr_P YTKM- <br />The traffic signals at Mt. Vernon Ave. and La Cadena Dr. were installed about 25 years <br />ago. The signals are out dated and need to be upgraded in order to meet the needs <br />of the public. <br />STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: <br />The traffic signals at Mt. Vernon Ave. and La Cadena Dr. are experiencing mechanical <br />failure in that the signals are getting stuck on red in all directions, except south- <br />bound on Mt. Vernon Ave. When this occurs the Police Dept. places the signals on red <br />flash. <br />ALTERNATIVES; <br />None <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />None, developers pay for traffic fees for upgrades and new traffic safety devices. <br />There is $300,000 in the traffic fee fund. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />The safety of the public will be improved with the upgrade of the signals. <br />RECCMy1ENDAT ION : <br />Staff recommends that Council approve the additional appropriation of $19,300 from <br />traffic fees for the upgrade of the traffic signals at Mt.
