CITY OF COLTON <br />FIRE PREVENTION OFFICER <br />To perform a variety of fire prevention duties, primarily in the area <br />of fire code enforcement, plan review, public education and other <br />related duties as assigned. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives direction from the Fire Division Chief/Fire Marshal. <br />Exercises direct supervision over other fire personnel with respect to <br />fire investigation and inspection. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the <br />following: <br />Supervises and participates in the inspection of public and private <br />buildings and installations for fire hazards and life safety systems to <br />determine compliance with state and local fire and building code <br />ordinances and laws. <br />Interacts with the public, business owners, architects and developers, <br />on related equipment. <br />Checks building plans to insure adequacy of fire extinguishing systems <br />and related equipment. <br />Maintains a close working relationship with the Building Department <br />particularly in regard to plan reviews and field inspections. <br />Enforces technical fire safety codes and ordinances, issuing notices, <br />warnings and citations as necessary. <br />Investigates fires to determine their cause and origin and prepares <br />necessary documents and reports. <br />Testifies as an expert witness in court cases involving fire code <br />citations, arson and other fires. <br />Supervises and evaluates fire inspectors and provides for their <br />training and development. <br />Assists the department Training Officer in developing fire prevention <br />and investigation curriculum. <br />Conducts fire prevention and investigation training for suppression <br />personnel. <br />Develops and conducts fire safety education programs to civic groups, <br />businesses and schools. <br />
