CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of February 5. 1991
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: John C. Hutton, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT: Award of Consulting Engineer Contract for the
Date : January 28, 1991
Design of the Katz Well to John Egan and Associates
in the Amount of $19,470
The Manning Company dedicated the existing Katz Well to the City. The Well video
logged and had water analysis taken to determine if it would be feasible to develop
the irrigation Well into a domestic Well. The Well would benefit the Cooley Ranch
area.
It has been determined that the Well could be developed as a domestic Well and should
pump approximately 1,000 gallons per minute. Once the Well is developed it could be
placed either into the system or pump to the proposed reservoir in Reche Canyon.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
On December 11 and 12 interviews were held with the 14 engineering firms that
submitted proposals for the design of the Katz Well. Attached is a copy of the
ratings for each firm and the engineering cost.
Staff met with the top 2 firms to discuss their proposals and the City's needs.
Staff feels that John Egan and Associates would be the best firm to design the Katz
Well since they have successfully completed many water projects and know the
water system.
ALTERNATIVES:
None, the State of California is requiring additional wells to serve the City.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There are sufficient funds in the Water Division's New Well Capital Improvements
Projects Account 21-9922-89 for the engineering design.
ENVIRONvlENTAL IMPACT:
Additional water for the Cooley Ranch will be available this year.
Attachments: 2
ORIGINAL
Item No.
CENTRAL RECORDS
FILE NO. ........ ......
