CITY OF COLTON <br />POLICE CAPTAIN <br />To plan, organize, direct and coordinate the activities of the Police <br />Department Operations including Patrol, Investigations, and Support <br />Services, and to do related work as assigned. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives general direction from the Police Chief. <br />Exercises direct supervision over sworn and non -sworn personnel. <br />Assignments may also require technical and/or functional supervision <br />over sworn and non -sworn personnel. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the <br />following: <br />Assist in the development and implementation of general Police <br />Department goals, objectives, policies and priorities. <br />Plan, organize and review the work the three major divisions: Patrol <br />Division, Investigations Division and Support Services Division. <br />Direct, supervise and coordinate the activities of sworn and non - <br />sworn personnel in preserving order, protecting life and property, <br />and in enforcing laws and municipal ordinances. <br />Maintain effective public relations program with citizens and other <br />law enforcement agencies to ensure cooperation. <br />Direct the preparation of required reports and records; ensure timely <br />submission; evaluate as necessary. <br />Supervise the implementation of in-service training programs for <br />assigned personnel. <br />Review the evaluations of employee performance and take appropriate <br />action where necessary. <br />Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct by Department staff, and <br />recommend appropriate actions. <br />Assist the Police Chief in overall departmental budget development <br />and administration. <br />Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff. <br />Assume departmental command during the absence of the Police Chief as <br />assigned. <br />Perform related duties as assigned. <br />
