CITY OF COLTON <br />POLICE LIEUTENANT <br />To perform responsible management, supervisory and technical police <br />work in commanding the patrol division, the investigations division, <br />or the support services division and to do related work as assigned. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives general direction from the Police Captain. <br />Exercises direct supervision over sworn and non -sworn personnel. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the <br />following: <br />With the approval of higher level Department management, develop and <br />implement goals, objectives policies and priorities. <br />Plan, coordinate, and supervise the activities of the patrol or <br />investigations section; conduct studies of the organization and <br />procedures of the department; analyze data; make procedural <br />recommendations; prepare reports. <br />Coordinate and supervise the activities of the Patrol Division; <br />oversee the scheduling of personnel on assignment shifts; supervise <br />canine,, SWAT and reserve officer activities. <br />Conduct, supervise and coordinate investigations of criminal acts; <br />instruct officers in investigation procedures; review all <br />investigation reports and make recommendations and suggestions to <br />officers; coordinate investigations involving several officers. <br />Receive complaints or reports of emergencies and determine need for <br />police action; ensure that reports and records are properly submitted <br />and maintained. <br />Review the work of subordinates to ensure compliance with <br />departmental policies and procedures; participate and lead staff <br />meetings to review department services, procedures and activities. <br />Correct, supervise, and participate in the preparation and <br />maintenance of reports and records. <br />Assist in administrative responsibilities involving the Department's <br />purchasing, personnel and communications functions; conduct special <br />studies of Department functions as assigned. <br />Assist in developing and conducting training programs in the various <br />phases of police activities. <br />Assist in coordinating police activities with other City departments <br />and divisions, and with outside agencies. <br />
