CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of may 2.8, 1991
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: EDMUND F. SOTELO, City ManagerSC,../
SUBJECT: Award of Bid for SF6 Switches to Southwest
Power Inc., in the Amount of $18,663.07
BACKGROUND
Date: May 17, 1991
The City of Colton Electric Department has a requirement for some
SF6 Switches. On April 11, 1991, General Services advertised for
sealed bids for these requirements.
Bid opening was held at 3:30 P.M., April 24, 1991, in the General
Services office. Six bids were received and evaluated by the Electrical
Engineer.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The low bid was received from Electrical Equipment, Inc. The SF6
switch is a new product to this manufacturer, therefor, there is no
history available as to the reliability of this product. The Electrical
Engineer has asked the company for a list of references on this product
and they did not furnish him with this information.
ALTERNATIVES
It is the opinion of the City's Electrical Engineer, that it is not
in the best interest of the City to purchase a product for which there
is no information available to substantiate quality. It is his recom-
mendation to award this bid to Southwest Power, Inc., the second low
bid , for a quality proven switch.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
A Bid Analysis is attached for your review, showing prices and delivery
quoted by each vendor. The recommended vendor's price is underlined.
Funds are available.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
None
Attachments:
Bid Analysis
Page 1 ofd Item No.
