Planning Commission Regular Meeting Minutes Page 5
10 September 1991
sought to combine polo and equestrian facilities.
Commissioner Vega motioned to approved File Index DT-51-90/TT 14957 with the
above additions and corrections indicated by Mr. Aguilera. Commissioner
Hernandez seconded the motion. Motion carried.
File Index Number DS -42-91
Home Savings of Amer
Mr. Aguilera reported this is a request for a pole double-faced sign (30 feet
high, 12 x 8 foot side -faced) on 1401 Santo Antonio. The sign being requested
is to be utilized for the Centrepointe Apartments.
Commissioner Prieto noted the city no longer approves pole signs such as this.
A discussion followed regarding the approval of this and not allowing other
businesses to do the same.
Gary Quiel - Quiel Brother Signs, 272 South "I" Street, San Bernardino,
indicated that he doesn't feel what his client is requesting is out of the
ordinary or illegal. He stated this sign has been planned to satisfy the
customer and assist them in their economic needs. Mr. Quiel also urged that the
Commission take consideration due to the fact of the downgrade slope of the lot
in reference to the freeway elevation, which the sign's proposed traffic would
be coming from.
Arleen Plummons - 1400 Barton Road, Redlands, related she is Assistant Manager
for Centrepointe Apartments. She reported that when the freeway sign was taken
down, 40% of perspective residents were lost and they have not been able to
regain that traffic, even with a 500% increase in advertising. She stated that
the sign is needed to financially assist the apartments, and in essence provide
a service to the community.
Mr. Aguilera commented the ordinance does allow the Commission to grant anything
less than the maximum which is 45 feet high.
Commissioner Wyatt motioned to accept DS -42-91. Commissioner Cordova seconded
the motion. Motion denied.
Commissioner Hernandez then motioned the Commission accept File Index DS -42-91
with the exception of the 30 foot pole sign to be a 10 foot monument sign.
Commissioner Vega seconded the motion. Motion carried.
File Index Number DCV 7-71 Adams Advertising, Inc.
Mr. Aguilera referred to the letter from Mr. Adams indicated that he plans to
return from vacation sooner than originally indicated and is requesting the
Commission permission to bring the hearing date up from October 8, 1991 to
September 24, 1991. Mr. Aguilera advised staff he saw no problems with this and
also referred the issue to Attorney Edwards who indicated that it would not be
out of line for the Commission to approve such. It would only necessitate
re -advertisement which Mr. Adams would be responsible for paying.
Reith Stevens - Regency Advertising, indicated he submitted a proposal for a
hearing date in October and would like to be considered as a parallel offer.
