CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting oQctober 22, 1991
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Leslie K. Stratton, City Manager
D a t e Oct.22, 1991
SUBJECT:
Colton Museum Association Lease And
Possession Of Building
BACKGROUND.
On March 5, 1985, the City of Colton and the Colton Area Museum Association entered into an
agreement for the leasing of the Carnegie Library as a museum. The agreement is attached for your
information.
DISCUSSION.
Over the years, as funds have been available, the building has been renovated and repaired. There now
remains only a few items of work to be done in order to issue the required Certificate of Occupancy.
None of those items are significant enough to prevent the Museum Association from moving in and
commencing tenant improvements. It is expected that complete move -in, display construction and tenant
improvements will take two months. Opening to the public is scheduled for December and all remaining
work for a Certificate of Occupancy will be completed concurrently with tenant improvements prior to
opening to the public.
The Museum Association is prepared to make its first year's lease payment tonight in exchange for the
formal possession of the property. Mrs. Hazel Olson is on hand to make this exchange.
FISCAL IMPACT.•
Unknown at this time.
ENVIRONMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends acceptance of the Museum Association's lease payment in exchange for the keys and
possession of the Museum building for the purposes of tenant improvements in preparation of the Grand
Opening to the public in December.
-Report prepared by: Karen L. Kaufman, Economic/Redevelopment Coordinator
Attachments: "Agreement"
Page 1 of__—1 Item No.-/,
