Ramos, City Clerkl SUBJECT: Assessments for Demolition Expenses Background: Date: 7/29/92 On February 4, 1991, the City Council adopted Resolution No. R-15-92, authorizing entering into a contact with PRESCO, Inc., for demoliton of certain unsound structures within the City of Colton. The City Council set a public hearing for July 21, 1992 to consider the Cost Report of the Building Official, Community Development Director Aguilera. The July 21, 1992 hearing was continued to this evening to provide additional time to locate one of the property owners and to properly post the property. Discussion: All notice requirements have now been met and the Council can proceed to hear any objections from the property owners on the total cost of demolition of each parcel. The Statement of Cost for each structure is attached. Following close of the public hearing the City Council should approve and confirm the Report of the Building Official pursu- ant to Section 601 of the Uniform Housing Code by resolution. A resolution has been prepared and is attached. The Uniform Code of Abatement of Dangerous Buildings provides author- ity for the City Council to determine that assessments in amounts of $500,000.00 or more shall be payable in, not to exceed five equal an- nual installments. The Council's determination shall be by resolu- tion which shall include, the number of installments, whether they shall bear interest and the rate there of. Staff has prepared a resolution providing for each assessment to be paid over five equal annual installments with interest at the rate of 7 percent per annum as allowed by Section 908 of the Uniform Code for Abatement of Dan- gerous Buildings.
