CITY OF COLTON <br />FIRE ENGINEER <br />DEFINITION <br />Operate and maintain a variety of fire apparatus and firefighting <br />equipment; participate in firefighting activities, fire prevention <br />inspections, and training; perform mechanical maintenance on <br />vehicles, equipment and apparatus. <br />CLASS CHARACTERISTICS <br />Receives general supervision from a Fire Captain. <br />Exercises technical supervision over other firefighters with <br />respect to the operation and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, <br />and apparatus. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, <br />the following. <br />Drive fire -pumping apparatus to alarms and operates pump at the <br />fire; regulate water pressure through hose lines. <br />Operate and oversee the use of numerous types of vehicles, <br />equipment, tools, and apparatus. <br />Inspect vehicles, equipment, and apparatus; perform maintenance and <br />minor repair work; identify the need for major repairs; maintain <br />records of maintenance and overhauls. <br />Perform the duties of a Fire Fighter when pump is not being use at <br />a fire. <br />Maintain an awareness of City layout and the water system. <br />Operate resuscitators, inhalators and perform first aid. <br />Participate in drills and other training activities. <br />Serve as Fire Captain in his absence. <br />Participate in station maintenance and repair work; refill fire <br />extinguishers. <br />Operate radio equipment. <br />Perform related duties as assigned. <br />
