CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of June 16, 1992
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: JUNE 9, 1992
FROM: GORDON R. JOHNSON Q
Personnel Director
SUBJECT: ADOPT NEW .TOB DESCRIPTION AND SALARY RANGE FOR PERSONNEL
ANALYST I AND II
There are currently two Administrative Analyst II positions budgeted in the Personnel Department. The job
description is very general and does not require that incumbents have either education or experience in
personnel administration. Creation of a separate class series requiring prior personnel experience and/or related
education will enable the City to recruit candidates with this type of professional background. This will reduce
the amount of training time required to teach a generalist personnel practices, procedures, regulations and
policies. It is common in public agencies to have a separate class series to describe specialized functions such
as personnel.
During the recent classification studies conducted by Comp Plus, the consultant drafted a job description for
the positions of Personnel Analyst I and II. A copy of the proposed job description has been sent to SBPEA
for their review and input.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend that the City Council adopt the attached job description for Personnel Analyst I and II at the
current salary ranges for Administrative Analyst I and II, namely salary schedule 2, pay ranges 4.0 and 10.0
respectively.
C:\PERSANAL
/ X 6 4 -46, <:.,.
