STRATTON, CHIEF OF POLICE
Date:
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF EIGHT POLICE VEHICLES 3-9-92
FROM SEIZURE FUNDS (BID AWARD TO MILLS FORD)
BACKGROUND
The Police Department is currently fielding eight vehicles with
excessive mileage. These vehicles are used for emergency response
and extensive investigations. In the next few months, the mileage on
these vehicles will be between 80,000 and 100,000 miles.
DISCUSSION
Recently Mills Ford Dealership received the San Bernardino County bid
for 1992 Ford police sedans. The bid price is $12,768.45 per car for
marked vehicles and $12,255.45 for unmarked vehicles. This price is
lower than the California Highway Patrol bid awarded to Downtown Ford
at $13,373.00 per car and the Los Angeles County bid awarded to Sopp
Chevrolet at $13,104.00 per car.
FISCAL IMPACT
There will be no cost to the City's General Fund. These vehicles
will be paid for by asset seizure funds.
RECOMMENDATION
It is the Police Department's recommendation that Mills Ford be
awarded the bid for eight Ford police sedans for a total cost of
$107,300.25.
Report prepared by B.
