City of Colton <br />Receptionist/Telephone Operator (continued) <br />DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS <br />Knowledge of: <br />Telephone etiquette; modern office procedures. <br />Ability to• <br />Learn rapidly the various organizational units of the city and <br />their functions to the extent that routine information can be <br />readily given or callers can be referred to the proper person <br />or office. <br />Operate a telephone switchboard with accuracy and in a calm <br />and efficient manner while handling a large volume of calls. <br />Answer calls and questions with a clear, well -modulated voice <br />and use good grammatical construction and choice of works. <br />Perform routine clerical work. <br />Work independently. <br />Establish and maintain effective working relationships with <br />City staff and the general public. <br />Experience and Training - Any combination of experience and <br />training that would likely provide the required knowledge and <br />abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the <br />knowledge and abilities would be: <br />Experience• <br />One year of general clerical experience which included <br />operation of a central telephone system. <br />Training: <br />Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. <br />Approved By Council: <br />J2:RECP.WP <br />
