CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
tember 1, 1992
For Council Meeting of Se p
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Ken Herron Director of Parks, Recreation and Human Services
Date: August 25, 1992
SUBJECT: Authorization to appropriate funds for the purchase
of a lawn mower
Background
The parks division has one 62 inch blade and one 74 inch blade riding
lawn mowers to maintain the large turf areas within the Colton parks
system. Both of these mowers are nine years old or older.
In the past three months both of these mowers have been in for
repairs more than 50% of the time. The larger mower has virtually
been out of service the entire time.
Consequently the turf areas in the park system have not been
maintained at the appropriate level.
N Cr11GSl nn
Based on the limited budget allocation available the Parks,
Recreation and Human Services department it was decided during the
budget process to attempt to utilize these older mowers for one more
year. Unfortunately the experience of the past three months has made
that option seem less viable than it had been viewed previously. The
parks division's management staff now believes the only resolution to
this equipment problem is to replace the 74" mower with a new piece
of equipment.
After review of several manufactor's products the staff is
recommending the purchase of a Toro GM 345 with a 72" recycling deck.
The cost of this mower including tax is $16,055.
Recommendation
It is respectfully recormended that the City Council appropriate
$16,055 from unallocated funds to 1-4025-093 account for the purpose
of purchasing the above noted piece of equipment.
KH/mm
A/j .Ci(ti
Attachments:
Item No. O
Page 1 of --1
