CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of September 1, 1992 <br />TO: Honor le Ma d Cit Council <br />FROM: M 1 na er. <br />Subject: Computer System Upgrade Date: August 27, 1992 <br />Background: <br />A change in the City of Colton's Utilities Billing System to <br />provide our customers with the option of paying bills monthly was <br />approved by the Council at its meeting of August 18, 1992. To <br />implement this change a request to upgrade the City's computer <br />system was proposed simultaneously with the billing system <br />change. <br />Discussion: <br />The upgrade is necessary to handle the additional workload <br />generated by the new billing system. The number of bills <br />generated will approximately double as will the number of <br />payments processed. The amount of historical data that must be <br />stored will also increase approximately twofold. Additionally, <br />the City Utility has proposed some customer enhancements that <br />will require additional computer capacity. <br />Fiscal Impact: <br />None. The Computer upgrade is included in the Fiscal Year 1992/93 <br />Budget. <br />Recommendation: <br />Consider upgrade of the present Hewlett Packard Computer System <br />for the implementation of Monthly Utilities Billing Option and <br />General Business Use. Authorization to use Hewlett Packard as <br />Sole Source for purchase of the Computer upgrade. Refer to <br />Council Action dated August 18, 1992, for more specific and <br />budget information. <br />/C <br />
