)4ob .4
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of September 1 , 1992
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
Le 0-1
FROM: Ken Herron, Director of Parks, Recreation and Human Services
t : August 26, 1992
SUBJECT: Authorization to establish a budget for CFf) 811
Davis Park Expansion
Background
As per City Council direction the Parks, Recreation and Human Services
department staff has been meting with a committee of residents to
design the expansion at Elizabeth Davis Park.
The committee has met on four occasions and has conceptionally provided
a basic plan for development. This design is based upon the CFD
election that occurred in May regarding these issues.
Discussion
At this point in the process it is necessary to establish a budget to
enable the staff to hire an architect and begin to formalize the
conceptual plans established by the committee.
Based upon the resident's priorities, the staff has estimated the cost
of this development project to be approximately $280,000. Currently
$169,500 is allocated for the park development in the Comnunity Facility
District. Another $69,457 is unappropriated and is available for use
for the park project. The total of the two above noted amounts is
$238,957 and is approximately $41,043 less than the identified budget.
The resident committee has recommended that the short fall be
reallocated from street rehabilitation. (Please see attached report
from Richard Acevedo, Finance Director)
The staff has contacted Gary Miller a local architect regarding previous
efforts his firm accomplished on this project. Because of this work
already completed, Mr. Miller's firm can easily resume their effort at a
savings to the city. The quote from Mr. Miller is $16,628, which is
considerably less than the approximate $26,000 fee or 100 of the cost of
project which is customary.
Attachments:
Page 1 of_ 2 Item No. 1-6
