CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of March 2 1993
TO: Honorable Councilmembers
FROM: Mayor Frank A. Gonzales
SUBJECT: Resolution Against Any Transfer of BLM Land Date:
to Establish a Low-level Radioactive Waste
Disposal Site
I was approached by representatives of the Mojave and Chimahuevos
Indian Tribes to have our city support them in opposing the U.S. Bureau
of Land Management's (BLM's) transfer of land to the California Depart-
ment of Health Services for the purpose of constructing a radioactive
waste dump in Ward Valley, California.
One of their main concerns was the possible future contamination of
the Colorado River water. I have attached a "Summary of the Issues
Surrounding Ward Valley" which details concerns.
I will appreciate your favorable consideration of this resolution.
A signed certified copy will be mailed to Governor Pete Wilson,
U.S. Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt, and to Mr. Alfredo
Figueroa, Tribe Representative.
Attachments
Page 1 of_ 1
1.
