I
CITY OF COLTON '
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of MARCH 1 h f 1 9 93
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Richard E. Acevedo, Finance Director
SUBJECT: Award of Bid For Various 15 Gallon Trees Date March 9, 1993
For Urban Forestry Grant to Ron Brav's Nursery
in the Amount of $16,188.36.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Colton has been allocated an Urban Forestry Grant to
purchase parkway trees to be planted throughout the City.
On February 12, 1993, General Services advertised for sealed bids
for these trees. Bid opening was held at 10:00 A.M., February
23, 1993, in the General Services office.
DISCUSSION:
Four bids were received and evaluated. The low bid was received
from Santa Catalina Nursery, Valley Center, Calif. Their price
was based on a minimum delivery of 50 trees at a time. The next
low bid was received from Diamond Valley Nursery of La Habra.
Their price was based on a minimum delivery of 150 trees at a time.
The City does not have a secure place large enough to store 50
or more 15 gallon trees at a time. Vandalism is a concern along
with not having the facilities available to water and care for
the stored trees. The third low bid was received from Ron Brav's
Nursery in San Bernardino. They can deliver the trees on a daily
basis as needed by the Department.
A Bid Analysis is attached for your review, showing the prices
quoted by each vendor. The recommended vendor's price is
underlined. Also attached is a memo regarding guarantees.
The City also requested bids for cinch ties, lodge poles,
fertilizer tablets and mulch. Only two of the four vendors bid
on these items. These items can be purchased by the City through
an irrigation supplier at a lessor cost than from a nursery.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends bid award for the 15 gallon trees to Ron Brav's
Nursery in the amount of $16,188.36 and that all bids for lodge
poles, cinch ties, fertilizer tablets and mulch be rejected.
Report prepared by Mary J. Scribner, Buyer CITY MANAGER CONCU
Attachments: ( 1 ) Bid Analysis
(1) Memo dated 3/3/93
Page 1 of____ -1 Item No.—3
