CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT For Council Meeting of April 5, 1994 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Andrea Daroca, Interim Finance Director SUBJECT: Discussion of Pro -ration of Date: March 30, 1994 Dog Licenses ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- BACKGROUND: On March 15, 1994, the Council discussed the pro -ration of dog licenses. Staff prepared a report with information on the City of Colton's Animal Control, including a survey of surrounding jurisdictions. At that time, the Council requested that staff return at the next regularly scheduled meeting with a staff report and recommendation. DISCUSSION: This report is a combined effort of the Finance Department and the Animal Control Division of Police Services. In general, as was stated in the March 15 staff report, Colton's apprehension fees are very low, $1.00* compared to surrounding cities and the license fees are lower than all comparable jurisdictions, other than the City of Redlands. Staff has polled several surrounding jurisdictions and below are the statistics: Rialto County Redlands Loma Linda License Fee $22/11 18/9 14/7 Apprehension Fee 1st $18, 2nd $36 $25 1st $20, 2nd $30 3rd $50 18/9 1st $20-30 2nd $40-50 3rd $60-70 $22.50 Shelter Fee Colton 16.50/8 1st $1*, 2nd $10 3rd $50 Pro -ration $12.50 None Semi-annual Quarterly None *It should be noted that Colton is far out of alignment in 1st time apprehension fees with the surrounding jurisdictions.
