Clarke Actin El fi`-' � <br />Acting Electric Utility Director DATE: 08/04/94 <br />SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF CALMAT PROPERTIES COMPANY OFFER <br />AND PAYMENT FOR FOUR ACRES FOR A NEW <br />SUBSTATION AND FIRE STATION SITE, WITH OPTION TO <br />BUY UP TO SIX ADDITIONAL ACRES AS NEEDED <br />BACKGROUND <br />On May 3, :t 994 City Council authorized staff, Black & Veatch, and Coats & Field Services to <br />negotiate with landowners for a proposed transmission route and substation for service to the new <br />County Hospital. The City selected a site about 900 feet south of Slover Avenue, west of the <br />Pepper Street extension, as the preferred site for the substation. <br />STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM <br />The Electric Department intends to acquire two acres of land for the new substation. CalMat <br />Properties Company has tendered an offer to sell this property to the City of Colton Electric <br />Department at a price of $35,000 per acre. Included in the offer is an option for the City to buy <br />another two acres for proposed Fire Station No. 4 adjacent to the proposed substation. Staff would <br />like to exercise this option and acquire the additional two acres. Also, an option to purchase six <br />additional acres has been included to mitigate any Delhi fly habitat problems if they arise. This <br />offer and the specific options expire at 5 p.m., August 31, 1994. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />The City can refuse the offer and look at other property in the nearby area. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />The total cost for the electrical substation is budgeted in Fiscal Year 1994-95. The Fire <br />Department has been working with the County through their Memorandum of Understanding to get <br />reimbursement for the two acres for Fire Station No. 4. <br />Page 1 of 2 Item No. a" <br />
