TO CLOSE OLIVE STREET. FROM 1/31/94 TO <br />2/8/94; LAUREL AVENUE 2/10/94 TO 2/22/94 FOR RAILROAD CROSSING <br />REPAIRS AND RENOVATION <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Companies main line crossings at <br />Laurel Avenue and Olive Street have had need of major repair and renovation <br />for many years. <br />Numerous requests have been made by the City in the past to the Railway <br />Company for these repairs to be made, but due to a lack of funding by the <br />railway company only minor repairs were possible, (approximately 100,000.00 <br />cost for each crossing to install rubberized mat). <br />The Railway Company has finally been able to obtain funding to install the <br />rubberized mat crossing for both Laurel Avenue and. Olive Street, and is <br />requesting closure of these two crossing during the renovation and <br />installation period. <br />1) Olive Street from January 31 to February 8, 1994 - 9 days of <br />closure. <br />2) Laurel Avenue from <br />. <br />February 10 to February 22 <br />, 1994 12 days of <br />closure <br />f <br />r RECOMMENDATION <br />If Council concurs, <br />staff recommends the following: <br />1. Approval for closure subject to a public notification period of at <br />least twice within a 10 day period within a local publication. <br />2. Advanced posting of notice at both locations for public that travel <br />routes regularly. Notice to be posted 7 days in advance of the <br />closures. <br />
