Cloud Actin ' <br />g g Finance Director <br />SUBJECT: Request To Fill Vacant Accountant Date: June 9, 1994 <br />Position From Current Eligible List <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On May 5, 1994, one of the two accountants in the Finance Department <br />resigned, with no notice given, for personal reasons. The position was <br />responsible for the preparation, input, and filing of all journal entries, <br />production and preliminary review of monthly financial reports and the <br />encoding and input of daily non-utility payment cash receipts. <br />The Department has had to rely on a part-time student intern to carry on <br />these essential duties with considerable direction from the Financial <br />Services Manager. This increased demand for direction from subordinate <br />staff has served to impede the ability of the Financial Services Manager <br />to organize and coordinate budget and year-end efforts in the wake of the <br />recent departure of the Finance Director. <br />This division of the Finance Department has been hard hit by turnovers in <br />approximately the last eighteen months and is in sore need of stability and <br />adequate staffing to ensure accurate and timely financial information for <br />top management and other entities outside the City of Colton. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that Council approve the filling of the vacant accountant <br />position from currently available eligibility lists, so that staff can <br />begin the interview process as soon as possible. <br />City Manager's Concurrence <br />RDC/bjw <br />Attachments: <br />Page 1 of <br />HVA <br />r/, <br />/,_ <br />�, I - <br />�^ <br />Item No. 7 <br />
