CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of June 21, 1994
TO: Honorable Mayor, City Council, and City Manager
FROM: Gale A. Drews, Electric Utility Director Date: 6/08/94
SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF NEEDS -ANALYSIS MAPPING CONTRACT TO
UGC CONSULTING
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The Department is planning to convert its existing manual mapping system to a computerized
mapping system to enhance staff's efficiency. A long term plan to fit the Department's needs and
keeping up with changes in the computerized technology needs to be handled by an experienced
consultant. A thorough study such as this will provide a long term plan to implement the process
efficiently over the years. The consultant will also determine the total cost of the project and cost -
benefit ratio of implementing the computerized mapping system. This study was already budgeted
for in our Professional Services Account and approved by the City Council. Due to the City's
current expenditure -freeze, the Department needs the City Council's approval to execute the
contract agreement.
ALTERNATIVES - None.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The study, which will be concluded in 2 months, has a total cost of $35,288.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT - None.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff' recommends that the City Council authorize the Electric Utility Director to execute the contract
agreement with UGC Consulting.
City Manager's Concurrence:
Report prepared by: Nitin Modi, Principal Electrical Engineer
Page 1 of 1 Item No. 16
