CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of May 3, 1994 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: Randy Anstine, Director of Recreation & Human Services <br />SUBJECT: Authorization To Enter Into Agreement and Adoption <br />of Budget For The Summer Youth Employment Training <br />DATE: April 26, 1994 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On April 5, 1994, the City of Colton was notified, that the Summer Youth Employment <br />Training Program (SYETP) Appeals Board awarded the City a grant, in the amount of <br />$156,383.00. This grant will allow the Recreation & Human Services Department <br />administer a SYETP this summer. Said program plans to serve 125 local youth, both <br />in -school and out-of-school, from the ages of 14 to 21. The main thrust of the program <br />will be to employ, train, and educate, high risk youth. Participants will have the <br />opportunity to earn money, while gaining positive job training. The remedial <br />component of the program will assist participants that fail to meet established <br />proficiency standards in math and reading. Through interaction with supervisors, one- <br />to-one counseling, and remedial training, participants will be encouraged to continue <br />school after the program is completed. An important goal of the program is to increase <br />the number of college bound individuals. An additional goal of the program is to <br />develop positive work behavior traits. In addition to academic enrichment, participants <br />will be trained in a variety of occupations including, clerical, custodial, maintenance, <br />recreation services, child care, library services, urban planning, and customer service. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />NONE. GRANT WILL COVER ALL PROGRAM EXPENSES. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN ALL <br />NECESSARY AGREEMENTS RELATING TO THE PROGRAM, IN ADDITION TO <br />ADOPTING 'rHE PROPOSED BUDGET AND BUDGET ADJUSTMENTS, FOR THE <br />OPERATION OF A SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT TRAINING PROGRAM. <br />City Manager's Concurrence. <br />ATTACHMENTS: <br />- Contract Documents <br />- Budget Adjustment Request <br />,/, ,,, tea0 .
