PRINDEVILLE9C Interim Personnel Director SUBJECT: RESOLUTION FIXING THE AMOUNT OF THE CITY'S CONTRIBUTION UNDER THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' MEDICAL AND HOSPITAL CARE ACT FOR MEMBERS OF THE FIRE UNIT BACKGROUND Article III, Section 1, of the Fire Unit MOU defines the City's maximum contribution to employees' health insurance as the cost of family coverage under the Health Net Plan Group number 50766A. That amount has increased form $412.91 to $440.12 per month. The increase will take effect on the first day of the second month following the month in which the resolution is received in the office of the Board of Administration, Public Employees' Retirement System. On August 1, 1994, the City's contribution to retirees must be raised by 5% of the active employees' contribution. The new maximum contribution for retirees will be increased from $338.64 to $360.65. There are currently 10 Fire Unit retirees or their survivors who are enrolled in the program. For the City to implement the above agreement, a resolution must be adopted by Council fixing the employer's contribution for employees. FINANCIAL IMPACT The financial impact to the City for current employees will be $1,360.50 per month. Assuming there is no change in the current retirees' or survivors' coverage, the financial impact to the City will be $128.42 per month. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends Council adopt the attached resolution fixing the employer's contribution under the Public Employees' Medical and Hospita Care Act for members of the International Association of Firefighters, Local 935.
