CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT 1887
! f OIL
For Council Meeting of November 1, 1994
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: October 25, 1994
FROM: HELEN A. RAMOS, Cemetery Manager ,O)
SUBJECT: Request to Reject Bid for Cemetery Inventory and Authorize Purchase by Open Purchase Orders
BACKGROUND:
On October 3, 1994, the Purchasing Division opened bids for Cemetery vaults and liners. One bid was
received.
DISCUSSION:
Prior to this fiscal year the Cemetery purchased its inventory for vaults and liners by open Purchase Order from
two vendors, Wilbert and Sannipoli. The most frequently purchased items were purchased from Wilbert due
to lower pricing. Items not available through Wilbert were purchased from Sannipoli. The one bid received
was from Sannipoli. Wilbert did not bid and called to explain that he could not bid because the manufacturer's
price could not be guaranteed.
In evaluating the bid received, last year's purchases were reviewed and a price comparison prepared. The price
comparison is attached. It is determined that Sannipoli's bid is $1,339.00 more than was spent last year
purchasing from Wilbert. The Cemetery cannot afford to purchase its inventory at the bid price. Staff is
requesting authorization to continue to purchase through the open Purchase Order system used in the past. This
would require that the Council reject the bid of Sannipoli.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council reject the bid received from Sannipoli and that staff be authorized to
continue to purchase .from both vendors by open Purchase Order.
C anager's nc rrence:
atch: 1
1
