CITY OF COLTON
11%r, ° rterat..,
AGENDA REPORT
1887
%
f oi9'
For Council Meeting of November 15, 1994
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: November 9, 1994
FROM: PAULA CHAMBERLAIN
Finance Director
SUBJECT: Award of Bid for Insulators for the New Transmission Line to Southwest Power in the Amount
of $20,239.30.
BACKGROUND:
The Electric Department is in the process of purchasing materials for the construction of a new transmission
line. They have a requirement for insulators for this line. On October 17 & 24, 1994, General Services
advertised for sealed bids for this requirement. Bid opening was held at 2:30 p.m., November 1, 1994, in the
Corporate Yard Conference Room. Three bids were received and evaluated by the City's Principal Electrical
Engineer and our consultant from the firm of Black & Veatch.
A Bid Analysis is attached showing the prices quoted by each vendor. The recommended vendor's price is
underlined. Southwest power is the low bidder. They also offered an alternate bid for units that are high
pressure washable. The other manufacturer does not offer high pressure washable units.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
This project is being funded by bond sale revenue.
RECOMMENDATION:
After evaluating the bids, staff has determined that it is in the best interest of the City to spend the additional
money to purchase the units that are high pressure washable. Staff recommends award to Southwest Power
for their alternate bid in the amount of $20,239.30.
Report Prepared by: Mary J.
