RAMOS, City Clerk <br />Approved this 21st day of August, 1979. <br />* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * <br />COUNCIL MEETING <br />AUGUST 7, 1979 <br />A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Colton was held on the above <br />given date at 7:30 p. m., in the Council Chambers of City Hall, Mayor Gonzales <br />presiding. <br />Mayor Gonzales led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br />Invocation was offered by the Reverend Father Michael Keane of Immaculate Concep- <br />tion Church. <br />ROLL CALL_ <br />Council Members present were Hayes, Cisneros, Rehrer, Temby, and Mayor Gonzales. <br />Also present were Attorney Eugene A. Demchuk and City Clerk Ramos. Absent was <br />City Manager Calabrese and City Attorney Edwards.* <br />Mayor Gonzales introduced Attorney Eugene A. Demchuk to the audience. <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION: <br />The City Council adjourned to Executive Session at 7:37 p. m., to discuss Personnel <br />Matters and possible Litigation, and reconvened at 8:07 p. m., all Members present. <br />PPrcnnnal <br />Attorney Demchuk stated he has been asked to announce that action has been taken by <br />the City Council to approve an Agreement between the City and Mr. Calabrese, which <br />outlines a proposal that amounts to a disposition, including a resignation by Mr. <br />Calabrese, and the payment of salary to which he is entitled, accumulated vacation <br />pay, and a severence pay to him. Mr. Demchuk said based on that, and the Agreement, <br />there has also been an amendment to Resolution No. 3925, regarding the action taken <br />by the City Council of the removal of Mr. Calabrese as City Manager, and the Council <br />has received a signed resignation by Mr. Calabrese. <br />Mr. Demchuk said, with the Mayor's consent, he would like to make a brief statement. <br />Mr. Demchuk continued that he certainly concurs with the action that has been taken <br />by the Council, and he thinks a great deal of courage has been shown by them in <br />doing what they have done. Mr. Demchuk stated there was a very real threat of <br />litigation and he was convinced that it would occur, and, as everyone knows, the <br />cost and expense of litigation can be very, very significant, and that was a poten- <br />tial facing the City Council in considering what action to take. Mr. Demchuk said <br />he knows that the City Council, every member on this Council, has been very con- <br />scientious and has exercised a great deal of concern before reaching a decision, <br />and they have known and understood that there were consequences both good and bad <br />from what they have done. <br />Mr. Demchuk continued that now, however, the controversy of the dispute is ended, <br />it is over, and it would serve no useful purpose by continuing the controversy and <br />AUG 7 '1979 <br />
