because this a new, first time type of operation with this type of a
28
pool the Maintenance & Operation, Capital Outlay, and Capital Improve-
ments are estimated to the best of staffs' capability and knowledge
at this time.
In reply -to questions regarding maintenance of the pool, Mr. Lofy
stated City Manager Calabrese, has suggested contracting out for the
maintenance. Mr. Lofy said with contracting out in mind, a thought
would be -to contract with -the School District in as much as they already
have and are maintaining a pool.
Councilman Rehrer asked if the pool is scheduled to be heated and if
it is, has -the hot water well been looked into?
Mr. Lofy responded that he -thought -the pool was scheduled to be heated,
but that he was not positive and that in regards to -the hot water well,
the cost of repairing it and/or the lines had been looked into sometime
back and appeared -to be high at that time.
Councilman Rehrer said it should be researched again and perhaps the
contractor should be told -to hold up until we can find which way to go.
( City Manager Calabrese explained that he would recommend allowing the
contractor -to proceed with heating the pool because of the new law
that says that no new permits will be issued for heating of public
Q pools if, the permit is not obtain by specified date. Mr. Calabrese
said the hot water well can still be looked into and either the well
or the installed gas heating could be used, with one or the other
acting as an alternate source.
City Manager Calabrese was asked to look into the cost of putting the
hot water well into service for heating -the swimming pool and to report
back -to -the Council.
Community Centers
Council reviewed the budget for -the Community Centers and discussed
compensation for -the Maintenance Man's expense in travel between
centers. City Manager Calabrese stated -the City has an established
policy for reimbursement for this type of expense and Mr. Lofy can
submit a request on behalf of -the maintenance man.
Council requested that a vehicle, preferably a truck, be made available
to -the maintenance man as soon as possible, City Manager Calabrese
and -the Finance Director said this was being looked into, with -the
possibility of transferring a truck from the Streets or Parks Depart-
ments.
Recreation
Mr. Lofy stated that if the Recreation and Parks Commissioners are -to
be funded for participation in the League of California Cities Conference,
-the Travel & Meetings Account 28 should be increased -to $3,000 from
$1,700.
REVENUE SHARING
Mr. Ray Abril, 330 "N" Street, addressed the City Council on behalf
of the Veterans Memorial Committee. Mr. Abril reported that he on
behalf of -the committee, had submitted a recreational proposal for use
of Revenue Sharing Funds. Mr. Abril said the original proposal called
for an amount of $60,000, after review of the proposal by -the committee
and Recreation Director Lofy -the final proposal cost comes -to $30,506.
Mr. Abril said -the proposal was written by -the committee in an effort
to aide the organization of the unorganized.
Councilman Rehrer asked if the program would interfere with the seniors
food program at both centers.
JUL 3 0 1979
