(2 0) Surplus Vehicles <br />Purchase of three Used Automobiles. (Removed from the <br />Consent Calendar for further consideration) <br />Moved by Councilman Rios, seconded by Councilman Rehrer, to approve <br />the Consent Calendar, with removal of Item No. 20. Unanimous vote. <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITZKO: <br />Proclamations <br />Mayor Gonzales read in full a Proclamation declaring May 20, 1990, <br />as PEACE DAY. <br />Mayor Gonzales read in full a Proclamation declaring the week of <br />May 13 through 19, 1990, as HISTORIC PRESERVATION WEEK. The <br />Proclamation was accepted by Bette Cook, Vice Chairperson of the <br />Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission. <br />Resolutions <br />Mayor Gonzales read in full a Resolution of Commendation for Mary <br />Ponder, Literacy Program Coordinator of the Colton Public Library's <br />Advance to Literacy adult reading program, for her work and many <br />efforts in this very worthwhile program. <br />Resolutions <br />Each Council Member read in full Resolutions of Commendation for <br />winners of the Commission on the Status of Women's Essay Competi- <br />tion, honoring the following: <br />Catrina Cabrera, 2nd Place - Grades 5 & 6 <br />Carol Sigdestad, 3rd Place - Grades 9 & 10 <br />Cosette Zamarano, 1st Place - Grades 11 & 12 <br />Rosa Delgado, 2nd Place - Grade 11 <br />Kimberly Curlett, 3rd Place - Grade 12 <br />Certificates of Commendation will also be sent to the teachers of <br />each of the students. <br />Presentations <br />Mayor Gonzales presented a Plaque to Gabriel Castorena, Parks <br />Superintendent with the Public Works Department, for his 50 years <br />of dedicated service with the City of Colton. <br />Mayor Gonzales and Councilman Lofy commended Mr. Castorena for a <br />job well done and spoke about their involvements with him over a <br />period of years during his employ. <br />Mr. Castorena thanked the Mayor and Council Members for the Plaque <br />and this recognition, stating there have been many changes over the <br />
