• Retirement of Police Officers,
Firefighters, and Recreation Services
Manager
• City Managers Weekly Report
• Teen Center
• Utility Payment Kioske
SCAG recognition via Compass
Blueprint Award
0 Appointment of 2009 League Voting Delegate and Two Alternates.
There was no opposition by the Council members present to the appointment of CM Perez/Bennett and
Mayor Pro Tempore Oliva as voting delegate alternates.
Discussion and Possible Direction for Elected Officials Salary Reductions Commensurate to
City Employee Salary Reductions.
Mayor Chastain introduced CM Yzaguirre who requested that this item be placed on the agenda
for consideration of salary reduction, voluntary, commensurate with all reduction that all labor
groups took, that includes furloughs, and any reductions in wages.
Mayor Pro Tempore Oliva requested clarification from the City Attorney.
City Attorney Derleth explained that there is a specific statute that indicates that if there is an
increase in the council salary it cannot go into effect until the new office term begins for the
officials, the statute doesn't talk about salary reduction. There is an Attorney General opinion
that takes a position that salary reduction needs to wait for a new term of office to begin. There
are other councils who are making the reduction during this economic time figuring who is going
to challenge. It would require an ordinance to be implemented but it can be voluntarily done.
It was the consensus by members present to direct staff to prepare an ordinance for salary
reductions by the Council.
INFORMATIONAL ONLY
Letter of Support - Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant Program Funding
Application.
General Manager Olko provided a brief overview federal stimulus package, on the various
energy efficient programs that promote energy consumption reductions in the city. Projects
highlighted were:
1. Solar system to be place at teen center, energy kiosk to show energy produced
2. Lighting for the bike path, LED Street Lighting
3.
